Just Balancing with Brittany: Balancing doing NOTHING

Hi Triple B's-

So this week I decided to do something new- I went into the blog-cast space with nothing......(this is not normal btw)

While riding in my car a couple of weeks ago talking to my friend Denetria, we started talking about why it's so hard to do nothing and oftentimes why women feel guilty when they take the time to do nothing. I remember saying, we should definitely talk about this on the blog.

Normally when I am prepping for a blog-cast, I script questions and dig for quotes that are related to the given topic. This week, I decided to do none of that and to just have a truly authentic conversation about doing nothing. I'm not even going to lie, the levels of anxiety I had going into the conversation were high because I didn't feel prepared or effective in getting ready. This blog-cast pushed me to explore just that. It's actually harder than one may think to just do nothing.......mainly because of the pressures of societal norms (everybody's always going and going and going) and what it could actually mean to just sit with yourself and do nothing.

Denetria and I met several years ago at Westside Middle School. We hit it off pretty quickly and have remained friends ever since. She is doing amazing things in the world of global equity in education and I am so excited to have her on this week to chat. Denetria is my friend who is just going to say the thing beloved and it's ALWAYS the thing that you need to hear. (If you can't say AMEN, then say ouch- this is Shirley). I appreciate that most about our friendship- we don't have to talk every day or every week, but when we do, we just pick up where we left off. We literally could have talked for hours and hours (as we normally do), but we tried to limit it to just a few minutes.

As always, words are what I have for you.
